Port Everglades

Port Everglades, situated in the Broward County, Florida, is one of the premier container ports in the United States. It encompasses the land within three major municipalities, the unincorporated Broward County, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, and the Dania Beach. It was officially established in 1927 as a deep water harbor and was formerly known as Lake Mabel.

At present, all the port operations are managed by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners. With over 5,400 ships at call each year, Port Everglades has become a major petroleum distribution and storage hub in the nation. It is not only the deepest of all Florida ports but is also the busiest cruise departure ports in the world. It holds a record of hosting 44,108 cruise passengers in a single day.

Port Everglades also serves as the liberty port of the United States Navy. It is best known for its convenient maritime operations, ongoing capital improvements, and its commitment to environmental protection. Port Everglades has been used as a dock for a number of famous ships, including the RMS Queen Elizabeth, the Regal Empress, the oldest passenger ship in continuous operation in revenue service; the Queen Mary 2; and the Genesis Class, the world’s largest passenger ship.
