Fairchild Tropical GardenFairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, situated in Coral Gables, Florida, is a fabulous, 83-acre (33-hectare) botanic garden, featuring a complete selection of rare tropical plants, including cycads, vines, palms, and flowering plants. The collection also comprises of bamboos, dates, flowering cherries, nectarines, mangoes, and Alfa-Alfa. Designed by architect William Lyman Phillips, this botanic garden was established by David Fairchild and Robert H. Montgomery in 1938. The garden was later ceded to the Miami-Dade County. The major buildings and landscape features of the Park include the Bailey Palm Glade, the Montgomery Palmetum, Vine Pergola, Gate House, Amphitheatre, Allee and Overlook, Montgomery Library and Museum, Moos Sunken Garden, Nell Montgomery Garden House auditorium, 14 lakes, and terracing walls. Other major attractions at the Park include the Davis House (1953), Robbins Plant Science Building (1967), Hawkes Laboratory (1960), Rare Plant House (1968), and the Corbin Education Building (1972). Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a prime center for palm research, horticulture, and conservation. It offers natural beauty as well as a unique blend of art and science. A number of documented botanical specimens are made available for education and research in science. The horticultural displays and classic landscape design of the garden offer the visitors a truly aesthetic experience.
