Mattheson Hammock Park

Matheson Hammock Park, situated in Miami, Florida, is the oldest park in the Miami-Dade County. It was established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. This tranquil, scenic park encompasses an area of over 600 acres (2.4 sq-km), featuring several historic coral rock structures. The main facilities offered at the Park include a full-service marina, picnic pavilions, nature trails, a snack bar, and a restaurant. The Red Fish Grill Restaurant offers fine dining opportunities. Restrooms, changing rooms, and showers are also made available to the tourists.

A major attraction at the Matheson Hammock Park is the man-made atoll pool that gets flushed naturally by the tidal action of the Biscayne Bay. This nature park is also home to a serene, breeze-swept beach, a perfect place to enjoy the warm, safe waters and breathtaking riverside views. The main recreational activities at the park include walking, picnicking, and swimming. However, cooking, glass containers, pets, and beer are not allowed on the beach. Besides, the Matheson Park also operates a sailing and power boat school. A very famous landmark nearby is the Fairchild Tropical Garden. The Matheson Hammock Park is one of the best picnic spots in South Florida and is certainly worth a visit.
