North BeachesGreater Miami beaches have received great compliments in national surveys time after time. The North Beaches in the Greater Miami area are best recognized as one the top choices for family fun and recreation. Today, these beaches are ranked among the best beaches in the United States. The most-frequented beaches in the area include the Bal Harbor Beach, Bill Braggs Cape Florida State Beach, Haulover Beach Park, Crandon Park Beach, Hobie Beach, North Miami Beach, North Shore Open Space Park, Surfside, Virginia Key Beach-North, and the Homestead Bay-front Park. The North Beach in Miami, situated in the Miami-Dade County, Florida, was formerly known as Fulford. It was established in 1926 by Captain William H. Fulford and was incorporated in 1927. It was given its current name in 1931. The North Beaches are situated a short distance away across the inlet. The major attractions in close vicinity of the North Miami Beach include the authentic Medieval Spanish Monastery, housed in the St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church; and a line of other popular beaches. The Spanish Monastery is a popular venue for weddings and a major tourist attraction in the city. The Haulover Park and the Haulover Beach is a popular “clothing-optional” beach. It is owned and operated by the Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation. The major attraction at the site of the Haulover Marina is a historical marker dedicated to the first charter-boat captains in the State of Florida. Bal Harbor, Surfside, and the North-shore Open Space Park, situated nearby, are among other popular attractions. North Beaches offer a serene retreat from the hubbub of city life and are certainly worth a visit.
