Mahogany Hammock Trail is a self-guided boardwalk trail in the Everglades National Park. This 0.5 miles (0.8 km) (round trip) trail starts 20 miles (32 km) from the Ernest Coe Visitor Center at the main park entrance and runs through a thick, jungle-like hardwood hammock habitat, one of the nine major ecosystems in the Park. The lush vegetation found in this region includes air plants, Strangler Fig trees, and the gumbo-limbo trees. This habitat is also home to the America’s largest living mahogany tree.
The trail also features interpretive signs at points of ecological significance. Hiking and wildlife viewing are the two major tourist activities in the area. However, biking, camping, and fishing are strictly prohibited on the trail. The Mahogany Hammock Trail is wheelchair accessible and is truly worthwhile.
