sanibel

Sanibel, situated on the eastern end of the Sanibel Island in the Lee County, Florida, was established in the year 1974. Located on the Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida, this city is connected to the mainland by the 3-mile (5-km) long Sanibel Causeway. It is also linked to Captiva Island by a short bridge over the nearby Blind Pass. The city of Sanibel is best known for its wildlife refuges and recreational activities. The most popular tourist activities in the city include driving, fishing, biking, and kayaking.

The major tourist attraction in Sanibel is the J.N. ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Another popular landmark in the city is the magnificent Sanibel Lighthouse, situated adjacent to the fishing pier on the eastern end of the island. Periwinkle Way, the main thoroughfare in the city, features majority of restaurants and stores in the city. Most accommodations, on the other hand, line the East, Middle, and West Gulf Drives. The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the preservation of natural resources on and around Sanibel and Captiva, is yet another popular attraction in the city.

Sanibel Island is also home to more than 17 miles (27 km) of tranquil beaches and more than 26 miles (42 km) of biking trails. The Sanibel beaches are internationally acclaimed for shelling, beachcombing, fishing, and sunbathing. Sanibel Seashell Industries, situated on the Island, is the largest seashell dealer in the world. Sanibel Island offers great opportunities of fine dining, fishing, golfing, tennis, shopping, boating, canoeing, and watching impressive theatrical productions. The immaculate white sand, lush tropical foliage, an expansive beach, crystal blue water, and swaying coconut palm on the Sanibel Island attracts millions of visitors every year.
