Siesta Key Beach

siesta key beach

Siesta Key, situated between the Gulf of Mexico and the Sarasota Bay, is a one of the major barrier islands off of the central western coast of Florida. It was named as the Sarasota Key in 1513 by the European cartographers. The island was renamed and given its current name in the 1920s. Siesta Key is best known for its internationally acclaimed beach that attracts millions of visitors annually.

The Siesta Key Beach is one among the top ten beaches of Florida. It was also rated as the ‘Best Sand Beach in America’ in the year 2004. It is the incredible sand and the warm, azure water of this beach that attracts tourists and local beachgoers alike. The clean, soft, ‘dazzling’, pure-white sand of this beach is tested to be 99 % pure quartz. Siesta Beach has also been declared one of the largest beaches in the area. Moreover, year- round lifeguard protection and shallow water depth in the near shore area makes Siesta Beach one of the safest beaches in the area.

The Beach extends from site called the ‘Point of Rocks’, just below the mid-point of Siesta Key, to the Siesta Village region in the north. ‘Point of Rocks’ is a geologically unusual and the most notable site in this area. It is inhabited by a wide variety of fish and has been a significant landmark for mariners for centuries. Siesta Key Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and is a ‘must-see” for all those who visit the city.
