South Lido Park, situated at the southern tip of Lido Key in Sarasota, Florida, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. It is bounded by four major water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico, Big Pass, Brushy Bayou, and the Sarasota Bay. It is best recognized for its beautiful beach that offers breathtaking views of the skyline of downtown Sarasota and the Gulf. The southern beach portion of the park also features a wonderful picnic area shaded by Australian Pines.
South Lido Park Beach is known for its soft, white, fine sand. Unlike other beaches, this beach offers only little for the shell collectors. Lifeguards and shallow depth waters make this beach kid-friendly. The major recreational activities on the beach include swimming, boating, fishing, snorkeling, jogging, and walking. Other facilities made available in the nearby 100 acre (0.40 sq-km) park include nature trails, a volleyball court, picnic grounds, horseshoe pits, restrooms, playground, kayak launch and trail, a canoe trail, and the Big Pass Waterway. Rollerblading, sightseeing, biking, and enjoying cocktails and shopping at St. Armands Circle are among other popular tourist activities in the Park.
Unlike the constantly active Lido and North Lido Beaches, the South Lido Beach offers a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life and is genuinely a tropical paradise. The four major water bodies surrounding the beach offer an excellent selection of waters. This beach can be easily accessed by traveling over the Ringling Causeway and Sarasota Bay, taking a left in the center of the town, and then following the signs to the end of the island.
