St. Petersburg, situated in Pinellas County, Florida, is not only a politically significant battleground in the U.S. Presidential politics but is also a popular vacation destination for the vacationers from Europe and North America. It is the fourth largest city in the state and the second-largest in the Tampa-St.Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida Metropolitan Area. Commonly referred to as St. Pete, this city is linked to the city of Tampa by bridges and causeways and to Bradenton, Florida by the popular Sunshine Skyway Bridge. St. Pete is located on a peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and the Tampa Bay, and has been nicknamed as the “Sunshine City”.

The major educational institutes in the city include the Eckerd College, St. Petersburg College, and the Poynter Institute for journalists. St. Pete is also home to a branch of the University of South Florida. The city is also well known for its art galleries, museums, and entertainment venues. Some of the major points of tourist interest in the city include the Museum of Fine Arts; the Children’s Museum; the History Museum, featuring a life-size replica of the Benoist Seaplane; the Salvador Dali Museum, which holds the largest collection of Dali’s; a Holocaust Museum; he Mahaffey Theater Complex; the Midtown Royal Theater; Florida Craftsmen Gallery; the Coliseum; and the Palladium Theater.

Yet another popular tourist attraction in the city is the St. Petersburg Pier. It features a small aquarium, adventure activities, life-size replica of HMS Bounty; great opportunities for retail shopping, and both fine and casual dining restaurants. The Pier also offers a number of sightseeing boat rides. Bay Walk, situated in Downtown St. Pete, is a well-frequented nightlife destination in the city. It is also home to the Bay Walk shopping Complex, an IMAX Muvico 20 screen movie theater, chain restaurants, and retail shops. Great Explorations; Fire House and Pet Vet Clinic; Sunken Gardens; Jannus Landing, a popular nightlife hotspot; Boyd Hill Nature Park, situated on Lake Maggiore; and Fort De Soto, the number one beach in America are some other attractions in the city. St.Petersburg is considered to be one of the most habitable cities in America and is certainly not worth missing.
