Tampa, situated on the west coast of Florida, is the county seat of the Hillsborough County. The city is divided into a number of neighborhoods, including West Tampa, North Tampa, South Tampa, Downtown Tampa, New Tampa, and East Tampa. Some of the major communities in the city include the Hyde Park, College Hills, Tampa Heights, Forest Hills, Seminole Heights, and non-residential areas of the West shore Business District and Gary. Tampa is also well known for its art and culture. It is home to a number of popular museums, such as the Tampa Museum of Art, the Tampa Bay History Center, and the Tampa Children’s Museum.
Tampa is also home to a number of significant historical landmarks. The 6 mile (9.6 km) long Bayshore Boulevard parallels the Hillsborough Bay from Downtown Tampa to areas in South Tampa. The Babe Zaharias Golf Course, located in the Forest Hills area of Tampa, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Another major tourist attraction in the city is the Sulphur Springs Water Tower, a historic landmark in the Sulphur Springs section of the city. Park Tower, the first skyscraper in downtown Tampa; One Tampa City Center, the tallest building in the city; the Story of Tampa, a wonderful mural painted by Lynn Ash and featured in the lobby of the Tampa Municipal Office Building; the Beer Can Building; the Tampa Theater; Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center; Fun-Lan Drive-In; and Museum of Science and Industry are other major attractions in the city.
The City of Tampa is best recognized for its parks, beaches, recreational activities, and a vibrant nightlife. At present, it operates more than 165 parks and beaches, encompassing over 2,286 acres (9.2 sq-km) of land within the city limits. The main points of tourist interest in the area include the Hillsborough River State Park, the Lowry Park Zoo, the Adventure Island, Bush Gardens Africa, and the Florida Aquarium. The most frequented nightlife spots in the city include the Ybor City and Channel-side. Tampa also hosts a number of cultural events every year. The most celebrated event in the city is the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, held on the last Saturday of January. Other popular events in Tampa are the Sant’Yago Knight Parade, the Outback Owl, the Florida State Fair, and Guavaween. Tampa has a lot to offer to its visitors and is a perfect tourist destination for people of all ages.
