Bahia Honda State ParkBahia Honda State Park, situated in the Bahia Honda Key, Florida, 12 miles (19.2 km) south of Marathon, is one of the southernmost state parks in Florida. This popular tropical destination is best known for its tranquil beaches, excellent snorkeling, and wonderful sunsets. Apart from snorkeling, the other main outdoor recreational activities offered at the Park include kayaking, swimming, boating, fishing, and picnicking. Anglers can either launch their boat at the boat ramp or fish from the shore. Kayaks and snorkeling gears are made available to the visitors at the park’s concession. Those who are not interested in snorkeling or other recreational activities can simple relax and enjoy the clement sea breezes that embrace the shores throughout the year. The Sand and Sea Nature Center at the Park gives nature lovers a unique opportunity to explore the unique flora and fauna of the Island. It also features an outstanding sea life display, a number of environmental activities, and a small marine aquarium. In fact, Bahia Honda is a perfect place to see beautiful shorebirds and wading birds. Vacation cabins and full facility campsites are also made available at the Park. These cabins are fully furnished, each provided with air-conditioning, 2 bedrooms, bath, and a full kitchen. It is strongly recommended to book up the cabins and campsites at least 11 months prior to the planned visit. The Bahia Honda State Park also plays host to a number of special events, including the annual Earth Day Celebrations. The Park is a serene retreat from the busy city life and is a ‘must-see’ for all those who visit Marathon Florida.
