Heritage House Museum

Jessie Porter’s Heritage House Museum and Robert Frost Cottage, situated at Caroline Street in Key West, Florida, was formerly the residence of Jessie Porter, the island’s ardent preservationist. This magnificent Caribbean Colonial house was established in the 1830s and served as the residence of the Porter Family, which lived on the Island of Key West for nearly seven generations. The home has now been converted to a popular museum, where visitors can enjoy and appreciate the authenticity of a cozy Key West home and the history that it holds.

The Heritage House Museum is dedicated to the Key West’s conch and literary history, island life, and pirate folklore. It offers several guided tours of the museum’s comprehensive collection, the elegant orchid gardens, and the Robert Frost Winter Cottage. The impressive collection at the museum comprises of authentic furnishings and atypical seafaring artifacts. The museum also hosts several poetry festivals, lectures, writers’ workshops, cultural events, weddings, and other special occasions in its serene tropical garden.

In addition, visitors are also invited to listen to the recordings of Robert Frost reading his poetry. The Robert Frost Cottage in the tropical garden of the museum is the place where the renowned poet spent sixteen winters of his life. The Heritage House Museum depicts 200 years of Key West culture through the fascinating lives of the Porters, and is a must-see for all those who visit Key West.
