Mallory SquareMallory Square, situated on the northern edge of Duval Street in Key West, Florida, is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Island of Key West. Located in the heart of Key West’s historic town, the Mallory Square is best known for the ‘Sunset Celebration’, which attracts several hundreds of tourists who come here every night to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the sun setting into the Gulf of Mexico. This Celebration also features a number of street performers, arts and crafts exhibitors, food carts, and psychics, who gather in the area nearly 2 hours before the sunset. The main points of tourist interest in and around Mallory Square include the Key West Shipwreck Historeum and Museum, the Old Post Office and Customs House, the Shell Warehouse, Sponge Market, and the Key west Historical Memorial Sculpture Garden. The Shell warehouse, housed in Asa Tift’s 1851 Ice House, features thousands of rare, bizarre, and beautiful shells, jewelry, artwork, and decorations. The Sponge Market, on the other hand, offers unique gifts and souvenirs, including ships and models, lighthouses, antique bottle reproductions, local art, maritime items, shipwreck treasure jewelry, and Key West house collectibles. The Market is also home to a museum that illustrates the ongoing native sponge trade of gathering, cleaning, and use of sponges. The Sculpture Garden features 36 bronze busts portraying men and women who made a significant contribution in making Key West a vital and lively outpost of American culture and folklore. The Key West Shipwreck Historeum offers a glimpse of Key West’s maritime heritage. The Mallory Square also features a number of bars, shops, galleries, and food establishments. Mallory Square is one of the most happening places in Key West and is truly worth a visit.
