Bass Museum of ArtThe Bass Museum of Art, situated in the City of Miami Beach, Florida, is considered to be Miami’s most progressive art museum. It aims at collecting and exhibiting the world’s finest art from the past through the present, and educating the visitors and residents in the City. Established in 1963, the Bass Museum of Art features the permanent art collection of John and Johanna Bass. Today, the museum is housed in the beautiful coral rock, Art Deco building, which was once home to the Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center. The building that houses the museum was established in 1930 by Russell Pancoast, grandson of Miami Beach pioneer John A. Collins. It was listed on the National Register in 1978. This magnificent museum building has been recently restructured by the world-renowned Japanese architect, Arata Isozaki and is now the centerpiece of the city’s historic district. The Museum features a large exhibition space, a museum café and courtyard, an outdoor sculptor terrace, and an elegant museum shop. The Museum features a wide range of old master paintings, sculptors, textiles, and period furniture of South Florida. Its permanent collection comprises of European paintings from the 15th through the early 20th centuries, emphasizing more on Northern European art of the Baroque and Renaissance periods. The collection features amazing works by Dutch and Flemish masters, including Flinck, Jordaens, Rubens, and Bol. Other art exhibitions include works of Frida Kahlo, Picasso, and Francois Marie Banier. The Museum also operates the New Information Workshop, which allow the budding artists to create their own masterpieces on computer.
