Coral Gables

Coral Gables, popularly referred to as ‘The Gables’ or ‘City Beautiful’, is situated in the Miami-Dade County, southwest of Miami, Florida. This city is best known for its graceful parks, majestic gardens, tree-lined streets, and serene neighborhoods. The fountain pools in the city bring to mind the images of New England, Spain, Dutch South Africa, and Italy. Coral Gables was founded by George E Merrick.

The most notable architectural districts and buildings in the city include the flamboyant Douglas Entrance Road, reflecting the unique Mediterranean style; the Coral Gables City Hall; the University of Miami; the Biltmore Hotel; and the Venetian Pool, well known for its authentic Italian architecture. All these structures have been wonderfully preserved as National Historic Landmarks. Other points of tourist interest in the city include the Coral Way Scenic Drive, De Soto Fountain, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, John C Gifford Arboretum, Jerry Herman Ring Theater, and the Montgomery Botanical Garden. The Lowe Art Museum, presenting temporary exhibits from international as well as local artists, is yet another major tourist attraction in the city.

The Miracle Mile and the Downtown Coral Gables offer plenty of shopping opportunities. This shopping paradise, situated on the Coral Way, offers everything from major departmental stores to exclusive designer boutiques. The City of Coral Gables is also home to a number of restaurants, serving Continental, Cuban, New World, American, Chinese, Floribbean, and Chinese cuisines. Besides, this vibrant city is also known for its elegant night life.
