Lowe Art MuseumThe Lowe Art Museum, situated at the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables, Florida, aims at serving the Greater South Florida communities, the University, as well as the national and international visitors through its permanent and borrowed collections. Established in 1952 by Joe and Emily Lowe, this museum was the first art museum in South Florida. In 1972, Lowe Art Museum became the first university art museum in Florida to have achieved the AAM accreditation. It was reaccredited in 1987 and was declared a ‘Major Cultural Institution’ by the State of Florida. Today, this museum facility is well known for its extensive collection of over 16,000 works pertaining to the Renaissance and Baroque, American, Ancient and Native American, and Asian art. It is also internationally acclaimed for its collection of Greek and Roman antiquities. It also features traveling exhibits, such as the Rolling Stone magazine's photo collection by Edward Weston. The museum also offers tours, lectures, and many other educational opportunities to its visitors. The Beaux Art Festival, hosted by the Lowe Art Museum, is a major tourist attraction at the University of Miami.
