Miami Dade Cultural CenterThe Miami-Dade Cultural Center, situated on Flagler Street in Miami, Florida, is a fortress-like complex designed by the renowned architect, Phillip Johnson. The Cultural Center encompasses an area of nearly 3 acres (1.2 hectares) and is one of the focal points of downtown Miami. It houses three significant cultural resources-the internationally acclaimed Miami Art Museum, the main branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library, and the Historical museum of Southern Florida. The Miami Art Museum features a permanent collection and major touring exhibitions of modern and contemporary works by international artists, including Jim Dine, Max Beckmann, Stuart Davis, and Eric Fischl. The Museum also holds rotating exhibits, featuring the renowned Latin American and Caribbean artists. The Andy Warhol exhibit at the Museum features make-your-own-prop art; parties with local DJs; cocktail hours; and all-night films by Andy Warhol. A major cultural event hosted by the Miami Art Museum is JAM at MAM, which is held on the third Thursday of every month. The Historical Museum of Southern Florida features a number of exhibits pertaining to the history of Miami, Florida. Some of the most impressive exhibits at the museum include cigar labels, old Miami streetcar, a railroad exhibit, and a display on pre-historic Miami. The Main Public Library, on the other hand, features nearly 4 million holdings. It also puts several art exhibits on display in its second-floor lobby and the auditorium.
