US Federal Courthouse

The U.S. Federal Courthouse, situated in downtown Miami, Florida, is the largest limestone structure in South Florida. Established in 1933, this historic courthouse encompasses a 2 square block area between the 3rd and the 5th street, just east along the North Miami Avenue. The Courthouse was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 14, 1983. The Miami Federal Courthouse Complex features three major structures-the Tower Building, the David W. Dyer Building, and the James Lawrence King Building.

The Dyer building houses the District Magistrate Court. The district courts, on the other hand, are located in the Tower and King Building. The Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Detention Center (FDC) is situated to the east of the Lawrence King building. The Wilkie D. Ferguson building, featuring twin 14-story glass towers, is situated just west of the Federal Courthouse. The Federal Bankruptcy Court and the Miami Seized Assets Court are housed in the Claude Pepper Federal Building, nearly three blocks southwest of the courthouse complex.
