Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, the principal city of Volusia County, Florida, is a year-round resort area, best known for its Motorsports. It is home to the Daytona International Speedway and the historic Daytona Beach Road Course, which have hosted races for over a century. The City also serves as the headquarters of the Grand American Road Racing Association and NASCAR. With huge crowds of people descending upon the city for seasonal events, such as Speedweeks in February, Daytona 500, NASCAR Pepsi 400 race in July, Bike Week in March, Black College Reunion in March-April, and Biketoberfest in October, Daytona Beach can be appropriately called a ‘seasonal town’.
Founded in 1870, Daytona Beach was named after its founder, Matthias D. Day. It was in 1926 that the separate towns of Daytona, Daytona Beach, and Sea-breeze were merged together to form the present-day city of ‘Daytona Beach’. Daytona Beach was declared “The World’s Most Famous Beach” in the late 1920s. Today, the City of Daytona Beach is one of the major tourist destinations in northeast Florida, attracting more than 8,000,000 tourists every year. It features a number of serene beaches, hotels, motels, restaurants, condominiums, and residential houses. It is one of very few places in the world where a family car can be driven on the ocean beaches. Daytona Beach is a popular spring break destination.
Bounded by the Holly Hill and Ormond Beach on the north and Port Orange and Daytona Beach Shores on the south, Daytona Beach is divided into two parts by the famous Halifax River lagoon. The city features a humid subtropical climate with hot and humid summers, characteristic of the southeastern United States. The principal highways that serve the city include the north-south Interstate 95 and the east-west Interstate 4. The City of Daytona Beach is also known for its rich culture and heritage that is much similar to that of the cultural South. The major cultural facilities in the city include the Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Halifax Historical Museum, and the Southeast Museum of Photography.
Daytona Beach is also considered a shoppers’ paradise. The best places for shopping in the city include the Volusia Mall, Bellaire Plaza, Ocean Walk Shoppes, Daytona Beach Flea Market, Riverfront Marketplace, Daytona Mall, Belnova Plaza, Nova Village Market, Pelican Bay Shopping Village, and the Wal-Mart Super Center. The other tourist attractions in the city include the Daytona Beach Band-shell and Oceanfront Park Complex, International Motorsports Hall of Fame, Daytona Lagoon Water Park, Jackie Robinson Ballpark, Mary McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center and Visual Arts Gallery, and the Seaside Music Theater, and the Ocean Center. Daytona Beach is a perfect holiday destination on the cultural Coast of Florida and is certainly worth a visit.
