Daytona International Speedway, a super-speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, is a 2.5 mile (4 km) long tri-oval race track facility. It features a seating capacity of nearly 168,000 spectators, a 3.56 mile (5.73 km) long road course, a 180 acres (0.73 sq-km) infield, and the 29-acre (12-hectare) Lake Lloyd. It hosts several races of a variety of motor vehicles, including motorcycles, go-karts, modified pickup trucks, sports cars, and stock cars. In addition, it also hosts powerboat racing at the spectacular Lake Lloyd.
A wide variety of other events, including an annual spring car show and swap meet, the Thanksgiving street rod meet, and 5k foot races around the track, are also held at the Daytona International Speedway. The most important event held annually at the Daytona International Speedway is the Daytona 500, the most significant race for the NASCAR’s premier series. Other NASCAR competitions held on this track include the Nationwide Series, the Craftsmen Truck Series, and the Sprint Cup Series.
Every year, racing begins here with ‘Speed-weeks’. The important events included in the Sprint Cup Series include the Budweiser Shootout, Gatorade Duel, and Coke Zero 400. The Nationwide Series, on the other hand, features Daytona 250 and Orbitz 300. Chevy Silverado HD 250, ARCA stock car racing, Daytona ARCA 200, AMA motorcycle racing, Rolex 24 at Daytona, SCCA Club Racing, and the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series are among the other popular events hosted by the Daytona International Speedway.
