Fernandina Beach

fernandina beach

Fernandina Beach, situated on the Amelia Island in northeast Florida, is the county seat of the Nassau County. As this city had eight flags flown over it since 1562, it is popularly known as the “Isles of 8 Flags”. The eight national flags that have flown over this marvelously forested and beached portion of land include France, Spain, Great Britain, the Patriots of Amelia Island, the Green Cross of Florida, Mexico, the Confederate States of America, and the United States of America.

Situated along the Atlantic Coast, the beautiful City of Fernandina Beach features the most spectacular heritage in Florida. It is best known for its rich history, cultural and recreational activities, an outstanding marina, community groups, and an excellent golf course. It is also the place where the modern shrimping industry first originated. Fernandina Beach is reminiscent of a graceful bygone era. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has recently designated the city one of the top twelve vacation destinations in the nation.

The City of Fernandina Beach features a 50-block historic district, well-known for its archetypal Victorian architecture. This wonderful historic district is home to the oldest saloon in the State of Florida. It also features a wide variety of galleries, restaurants, and elegant bed and breakfast inns. Besides, the Center Street in the historic downtown is nationally acclaimed for the eclectic shopping opportunities that it offers.

Fort Clinch State Park is a perfect place for relaxing, fishing, and bicycling. The Amelia River and the adjoining long sweep of salt marshes, on the other hand, serve as an ideal place for bird-watching. Other major tourist attractions in the city include the Amelia Island Museum of History, the Beech Street Grill, and the historic Shrimp Festival. The City of Fernandina Beach has a lot to offer and is certainly worth a visit.
