Flagler College

Flagler College, situated in the heart of St. Augustine, Florida, is a privately owned four-year liberal arts college, established by Lawrence Lewis, Jr. Best known for its high selectivity, Flagler College is considered to be one of the best comprehensive liberal arts colleges in the Southeast region. Also, it has one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States. Founded in 1968, Flagler College is named after Henry Morrison Flagler, the railroad pioneer, oil magnet, and industrialist. The college has also been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Designed by renowned architects John Carrere and Thomas Hastings, the College Campus encompasses an area of nearly 19 acres (0.08 sq-km) and is well known for its outstanding architecture. It features as many as 15 buildings, each of which has its own unique architectural style. The centerpiece in the historic Flagler College Campus is the Ponce de Leon Hall, which was established in 1888 as a luxury hotel. At present, the Leon Hall houses female dorms and a dining hall. Other notable buildings on the Campus include the Cedar Hall, the Ringhaver Student Center, the Flagler College Auditorium, and the Proctor Library, housed in the Communications Building. Most of the classes are held in the Kenan Hall. The magnificent statue of Henry Flagler, which stands guard at the King Street entry to the College, is also noteworthy.

The College offers 2 professional programs, 20 majors, and 26 minors in selected studies, focusing more on liberal arts, education and business. The College’s two major business organizations, the Society for the Advancement of Management and the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), have a proven record of success. Flagler College is also internationally acclaimed for its Deaf Education Program. It is home to the main branch of the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center. In addition, the college also awards membership in six honor societies, including Psi Chi, Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Chi, Alpha Psi Omega, Kappa Delta Pi, and Omicron Delta Kappa. The college’s 19 acre (0.08 sq-km) athletic field is located just a few miles away from the main Campus. The Flagler College teams, nicknamed as the ‘Saints’, compete in 12 varsity sports in the NCAA.
