Gamble Place, situated at 1819 Taylor Road in Port Orange, Florida, is an off-site facility owned and operated by the Museum of Arts and Science in the City of Daytona Beach. This remarkable property is nestled in the Spruce Creek Preserve and is maintained by the MOAS in cooperation with the City of Port Orange and the Nature Conservancy. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was declared a U.S. historic district on September 29, 1993. Gamble Place has been named after James N. Gamble who first visited the area in the 1800s.
Over the years, Gamble Place has emerged as one of the major tourist destinations in Florida, featuring the unique historic past and the rich natural environment of the state. Today, Gamble Place is a 175-acre (71-hectare) nature park with scenic trails, which encompass five distinct ecosystems. The park is home to a number of endangered and threatened species of plants and animals. The facility also features 6 historic buildings, 5 structures, and as many as 14 objects.
Guests to gamble Place are offered a number of educational tours of the grounds and the magnificent buildings established in the area by Gamble and his family. These tours are organized jointly by the MOAS and the Cracker Creek. The self-guided tours of the Gamble place are free to the public and are made available from Thursday through Sunday. These tours offer access to the property’s picnic areas, nature trails, as well as access to stroll around the historic buildings.
The guided tours, on the other hand, offer guests a unique chance to explore all the Gamble buildings on the property. On these guided tours, the Visitors are also allowed to step inside a wonderful recreation of Snow White’s Cottage. Group tours are available for groups of 10 or more and require advance reservation. Another popular attraction at the Park is the Eco-History Pontoon Boat Tour offered by Cracker Creek Canoeing. Kayak and Canoe rentals are also made available to the tourists.
