Pena Peck House

pena peck house

Pena-Peck House, situated in St. Augustine, Florida, is a Spanish Colonial residence that was constructed in the 1740s for the Royal Spanish Treasurer, Juan Etseban de Pena. This magnificent house also served as the home of the British Lieutenant Governor of Florida. In 1837, this house was sold to New Englander Dr. Seth Peck. Peck converted a large portion of this house into his offices. The Peck family resided in this house until 1930, after which it was sold again.

Today, the historic Pena-Peck House functions as a house-museum. It is run by the Women’s Exchange, which organizes guided tours through the authentically furnished rooms of this house. These rooms feature a number of Spanish artifacts, New England antiques, as well as period furniture shipped by peck from New England. The museum offers visitors a glimpse of what life was like in the colonial and 19th century St. Augustine. The tiny, historic Pena-Peck House serves as a pleasant sneak preview of the Mission de Dios attraction across the street, and is a ‘must-see’ for all those who visit the city.
