St. AugustineSt. Augustine, the county seat of St. Johns County, Florida, is the oldest port in Continental United States. Founded by the Spanish in the year 1565, it is the oldest incessantly occupied European-established city in the nation. This magnificent ‘old city’ is nestled in ‘The First Coast’ region of Florida that extends from Amelia Island in the north to Jacksonville in the south. Over the years, St. Augustine has emerged as a popular tourist destination in Florida and is best known for its rich Spanish Colonial Revival Style architectural heritage as well as the prominent 19th century architecture. St. Augustine is the terminus of the historic Old Spanish Trail and is also home to Marine Land, Florida’s first theme-park. The major tourist attractions in the city include the Alligator Farm, the Anastasia State Park, Bridge of Lions, Casa Monica Hotel, Cathedral of St. Augustine, Flagler College, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, and Fort Matanzas National Monument. Other points of tourist interest in the city include the Florida School of Deaf and Blind, Fort Mose Historic Park, Fountain of Youth, the Oldest House, Lightener Museum, the Spanish Quarter, and the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse. The city of St. Augustine is also home to a number of other galleries and museums. This Old City has a lot to offer to its visitors and is certainly worth a visit.
