Ximenez Fatio House

ximenez fatio house

The Ximenez-Fatio House, situated at Aviles Street in St. Augustine, Florida, is owned and operated by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. This magnificent historic property represents a boarding house from Florida’s Territorial Period and was added to the U. S. National Register of Historic Places on July 25, 1973. Situated in the center of the Old Town area, the city’s oldest community, the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum is considered to be the most authentic historic property in St. Augustine.

The Ximenez-Fatio House is the best preserved of the three dozen colonial buildings still remaining in the City. The historic ground of the museum is patterned on the basis of St. Augustine’s original town plan of 1572. The museum emphasizes on the property’s function as a boarding house, symbolizing one of the few customary business ventures for the 19th century women. The major attractions on the property include a wonderfully restructured ca. 1802 Wash House, and a ca. 1798 coquina Stone House, which is considered to be the only isolated coquina kitchen building in the region.

This elegant, historic Spanish home offers visitors a glimpse of the 18th and 19th century lifestyle of the wealthy northern tourists. The various facilities on the grounds of the Ximenez-Fatio House are now made available on rent for organizing private events. The museum is also open to the public as well the tour groups. This historic house is an architectural gem, reflecting both Spanish and English designs, and is certainly worth a visit.
