The Canaveral National Seashore (CANA), situated between Titusville, Florida and New Smyrna Beach, was established on January 3, 1975. Today, it is one of the more popular tourist destinations in Florida. This 58,000-acre (230 sq. km.) national seashore is home to over 310 bird species and nearly 1,000 plant species. It also features a serene, 24-mile (39-km) long beach. This beach is considered to be the longest undeveloped beach on the eastern coast of the state. The southern part of CANA is popularly referred to as the Playalinda Beach, white its northern part is known for Turtle Mound.
The major attractions nearby include the John F. Kennedy Space Center and the Mosquito Lagoon. The Mosquito Lagoon offers a safe spawning ground for the saltwater fish and is therefore, the best place to experience best recreational fishing. Other major recreational activities offered on the Canaveral Seashore include boating, surfing, sunbathing, camping, bird-watching, hiking, swimming, and canoeing. In addition, there are many nature and historic trails in the area. The most-frequented trails in the north include Eldora, Castle Windy, and Eldora Hammock. Canaveral National Seashore is the best place to relax for people of all ages. This piece of old Florida is a serene retreat from the hubbub of the busy city life and is definitely worth visiting.
