“Exploration in the New Millennium’’ is one of the most impressive exhibits at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Cape Canaveral, Florida. This futuristic exhibit offers the visitors a unique opportunity to observe and touch an authentic chunk from planet Mars that fell to the earth as a meteorite. Besides, guests are also taken on a unique journey from the Vikings' discoveries of Greenland and Iceland to the Mars Viking Lander. The Mars Viking Lander was the first U.S. probe to land on another planet in 1976.
The theme of ‘Exploration in the New Millennium’ was designed by Mr. Peter Inova. The stunning wall murals in the curving interior space illustrate the past hundred decades of exploration, leading visitors past the stereoscopic images of Mars from Pathfinder, two triple screen video presentations, and a Mars landing craft. The presentation space in the museum is redolent of the bridge of a star ship with three 12ft x 8 ft (3.6 m x 2.4 m) video screens. To enhance the effect the screens are often covered by ‘safety doors’ between presentations.
The museum also offers ‘The Planetary Explorer’, a dynamic tour of the solar system. “Sign Up for Mars” signature station, placed just next to the ‘Exploration in the New Millennium’ exhibit, invites the guests to insert their "Mars Passports" and sign their electronic signature. These signatures are then forwarded to NASA for travel on a future Mars probe! The elegant space shop at the museum sells toy space ships and astronaut-style freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches.
