IMAX Theaters

IMAX theaters

The IMAX 3D theaters enable people to see movies on a whole new level. There are as many as 9 IMAX movie theaters In Florida. Two such giant IMAX theaters are present at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Titusville, Florida. These two theaters are the only back-to-back twin IMAX theaters in the entire world. One stimulates the environment in a firing room during Apollo launch, while the other stimulates the Apollo 11 landing.

The KSC IMAX Theaters bring to life the dream of space flight with the realistic 3D special effects, five story screens, and a wall of sound. IMAX Theater 1 was established in 1984. IMAX Theater 2, on the other hand, was established in 1993, while its 3D facility was upgraded in 1996. Both the theaters measure nearly 52 ft (15.8 m) in length and 70 ft (21.3 m) in width. They feature spectacular footage shot by NASA Astronauts during actual missions and offer the visitors a unique opportunity to experience these space missions. With their exciting, large format motion pictures, these IMAX theaters allow the visitors to relive parts of the Apollo program.

The movies featured in these theaters include First City in Space; the Dream is Alive; and Mission to Mir. ‘First City in Space’ precisely describes a future space settlement through the use of an authentic NASA footage and data. ‘The Dream Is Alive’, on the other hand, offers an insider’s view of the Space Shuttle program. It has been narrated by Walter Cronkite and filmed by Shuttle Astronauts. ‘Mission to Mir’ depicts how the two greatest powers of the world ultimately discovered the value of friendship, including an exclusive footage from the Russian Space Station Mir.

‘Space Station 3D’ is the newest attraction at the IMAX Theaters. Narrated by the internationally acclaimed Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, this amazing 45-minute 3D film puts the audience right in the middle of a massive international undertaking as Astronauts and Cosmonauts construct the International Space Station 200 miles (321.8 km) above Earth. Another new IMAX space film is the Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D. This 40 minutes film is narrated and presented by Tom Hanks and it allows the audiences to walk on the lunar surface alongside the 12 outstanding astronauts who have been there in the past and experience what they saw, thought and did. Magnificent Desolation features Computer Generated Images, a rarely seen NASA footage, and live-action renditions of the lunar landscape.
