The first stop of the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tours is the Launch Complex 39 Observation Gantry. This 60-foot (18.2 m) tall LC 39 Observation Gantry offers a spectacular view of the two major Space Shuttle Launch Pads, 39A and 39B. The landscape also features the Launch Control Center, the massive Vehicle Assembly Building, and the well-traveled crawler-way. The four-story LC39 Observation Gantry also houses an interactive room at its base.
An impressive theater presentation gives the audience a behind-the-scenes update on what it takes to launch and land the NASA Space Shuttles. The bus tours take the visitors within 300 yards (274.3 m) of the inactive launch complex and stops at the viewing area. This viewing area is situated less than a mile from both the launch pads and just a few hundred yards from the Atlantic Ocean. A number of restrooms and photo opportunities are also offered to the visitors at this point.
