Early Space Exploration, a walk-through exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center, is situated in a wing adjacent to the Dr. Kurt H. Debus Conference Facility. This impressive exhibit offers the visitors an inclusive history of all the significant missions that laid down the foundation of the current space program. The main highlight of the ‘Early Space Exploration’ exhibit is the Mercury Mission Control Room. This room features the authentic Mercury Mission Control consoles and components from which all of the first eight manned missions of America were monitored. The major attractions at the Mission Control Room are the genuine Gemini and Mercury capsules.
The Mercury Mission Control Room at Cape Canaveral served as the mission control for the Mercury and Gemini programs until the year 1964. Today, it is one of the major tourist attractions at the KSC Visitor Complex. Here, visitors are offered a unique opportunity to observe the Complex 17 A and B Launch Pads for the Delta Rockets as well as Complex 36 Launch Pads for the Atlas Rockets. Besides, the guests are also invited to witness a simulated Gemini mission launch, which is presented using a multi-media video.
