The Rocket Garden, situated within the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Titusville, Florida, features a number of outdoor exhibits, including several authentic spacecrafts and rockets. The spectacular lighting in the garden enlivens these historic rockets with a jingoistic and audacious scheme. Each fuselage is highlighted with a dazzling white up light, while the engines are heated with an iridescent red-orange light. In addition, the entire site is suffused with techno-blue accents.
The major attractions in the Rocket Garden are the very same Atlas, Redstone, and Titan rockets, which first placed NASA astronauts in space. Climb-aboard Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules offer the visitors an idea of the restricted quarters endured by the astronaut pioneers of America. The Rocket Garden also houses an extraordinary space playground, featuring a one-fifth scale Space Shuttle/Space Station gym. This exciting playground attracts a number of young visitors every year.
The Rocket Garden also houses a full-scale model of a Space Shuttle orbiter, named as ‘Explorer’. This orbiter features a walk-through exhibit of the crew compartment and the cargo bay. Situated just next to this exhibit are full-scale solid rocket boosters, an external tank, and a Launch Status Dome with live briefings. Besides, the Gallery of Space Flight exhibit hall features a moon rock and other historical exhibits on human space flight. Rocket Garden is certainly worth a visit and is a ‘must-see’ for all those who visit the Kennedy Space Center.
