Fort Walton Beach

fort walton beach

Fort Walton Beach, situated in the Okaloosa County, Florida, is a very popular year-round fishing and beach resort. Thousands of visitors are attracted to the Emerald Coast every year, especially during the spring break. Fort Walton Beach is best-known for its sugar-white sand beaches, emerald green waters, and air sweet-scented by spring-blooming jasmine.

The City of Fort Walton was first established as a Confederate outpost. However, at present, the economy of Fort Walton Beach is driven by two major factors, military and tourism. The tourism industry at Fort Walton is seasonal, with summer being the peak season. The Beach also hosts the popular Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival every year.

Fort Walton Beach is bordered by two major Air Force Bases, Hulbert Field and the Eglin AFB. Fort Walton and Destin share some famous elegant restaurants, shopping at Silver Sands Factory Stores, and a number of parks and beaches. The main points of tourist interest in the Destin-Fort Walton Beach area include the Big Kahuna’s Water Park, the Gulfarium, the Okaloosa Island Boardwalk, Eden State Gardens, Grayton Beach State Recreation Area, Emerald Coast Science Center, and the Gulf Breeze Zoo & Botanical Gardens.
