Historic Pensacola Village

historic pensacola village

The Historic Pensacola Village, located between Seville Square and Plaza Ferdinand VII in downtown Pensacola, Florida, is owned and operated by the West Florida Historic Preservation Inc., a direct support organization of the University of West Florida. The organization is primarily based upon the large historical collection donated to the State of Florida by TT Wentworth, and is committed to Historic Preservation that developed only due to Wentworth’s munificence. The Village features an assembly of 22 historical buildings and museums, all of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The main historical buildings and museums in the Village include Bowden Building, TT Wentworth Jr. Florida State Museum, Museum of Commerce, Museum of Industry, Weaver’s Cottage, Historic Pensacola’s Tivoli High House, Julee Cottage, Lavalle House, Dorr House, Old Christ Church, and the Lear-Rocheblave House. The Museum of Commerce hosts a number of events and receptions, and the Old Christ Church is very famous for weddings. Certain other buildings in the Village are also rented out for special occasions. The admission ticket to the Historic Pensacola Village is valid for a week, and includes a guided tour to several historic buildings, and access to the entire Village and the T. T. Wentworth Museum.

The ten interpreted facilities in the museum complex, featuring an extensive collection of over 67,000 antique and historic objects, including kitchenware, tools, period clothing, furniture, automotive items, radios, and machinery, are open to the public. However, certain facilities can be visited only on a tour. The Historic Pensacola Village is a multifunctional organization, running an archive, research, preservation, and museum facility. It aims at preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the material culture of West Florida and is a ‘must-see’ for all those who visit Pensacola.
