Pensacola, nicknamed as “The City of Five Flags”, is the county seat of the Escambia County and the westernmost city in Florida panhandle. The five governments that have flown flags over the city in the past include Spain, France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America, and the United States. The city of Pensacola has also been nicknamed as the “World’s Whitest Beaches”, ‘Cradle of Naval Aviation”, ‘Western Gate to the Sunshine State”, “Emerald Coast”, “Redneck Riviera”, and the “Red Snapper Capital of the World”. Over the years, Pensacola has emerged as one of the major tourist destinations in Florida Panhandle. The main points of tourist interest in the city include the Historic Pensacola Village, T. T. Wentworth, Jr., Florida State Museum, North Hill Preservation District, and the Palafox Street in downtown Pensacola.
Pensacola is best recognized for its festivals, cultural events, and the popular music scene. The major festivals celebrated in the city include the Seafood Festival, the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival, the King Mackerel and Cobia Tournament, Gay Pride, Florida Spring fest, Lobster Fest, Grace Fest, the Bill Fishing Tournament, and the Bushwhacker Festival. Most of the festivals in Pensacola are held at the Historic Seville Square, Fountain Park, and the Bartram Park. Pensacola’s music scene is considered jaded at best, owing to the few venues and a large elderly population in the city. The popular music venues/halls in the city include Sluggo's, the End of the Line Cafe, the Handlebar, and the Gutter Lounge. The historical City of Pensacola has a lot to offer to its visitors and is truly worth a visit.
