St. Andrews State Recreation Area, situated in Panama City, Florida, is the most-frequented recreation spot in Florida. Best recognized for the pristine beauty of its crystal-clear, emerald green water and sugar-white sand, St. Andrews was designated “The World’s Best Beach” by Travel Magazine in 1995. It encompasses nearly 1,260 acres (5.1 sq. km.) of land, featuring more than 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of beach on the Grand Lagoon and the Gulf of Mexico. The major recreational activities offered in this area include camping, snorkeling, diving, swimming, canoeing, hiking fishing, picnicking, and boat launching.

A number of picnic sites are made available in various locations on the Grand Lagoon and the Gulf Beach. Besides, two fishing piers, an expedient boat ramp, and the jetties provide great opportunities for those interested in fishing. The concessionaire also offers snacks, limited grocery items, souvenirs, fishing licenses, bait, and rental of umbrellas, snorkeling gear, chairs, canoes, and kayaks. St. Andrews Recreation Area also features a number of scenic trails that offer breathtaking views of alligators, wading birds, and other small animal species. The major trails in the area include the Blue Heron Trail and the Gator Lake Trail. The Button Bush Marsh Overlook, on the other hand, is quite popular for bird-watching.

St. Andrew’s extensive shoreline, rock jetties, and the clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico offer an excellent place for swimming, snorkeling, and studying marine life. The pinewoods near Grand Lagoon feature two campground loops. The recreation area is also home to nearly 176 campsites, each provided with water, electricity, grills, picnic tables, bath houses, and a laundry. Primitive youth group camping facilities make St. Andrews a popular overnight destination. The Beach also offers the Shell Island Boat Tours during the summer and spring. St. Andrews is a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life and is a truly worth a visit.
