‘Journey to Atlantis’ is one of the most popular rides at SeaWorld Orlando. This ultimate adventure ride combines the elements of a roller coaster and a high-speed water ride with sumptuous special effects. The water-coaster has been designed on the theme of the mythical Atlantis. It takes the riders into the lost city of Atlantis where the mythical spirits and The Sirens wreak havoc on the intruders to their city.
The riders come across many spine-chilling thrills on the way. As they enter the City of Atlantis, their wobbly Greek fishing boat is wrenched by an ill-omened current. They are then offered a golden sea horse by an old fisherman to protect them from the evil Sirens. The wild, watery battle between Hermes, the messenger of the gods, and Allura, the queen of Sirens, follows and is all a gambit to crank up effects and enhance the thrill of the ride.
‘Journey to Atlantis’ features frequent turns, twists, shallow dives, and a few spine-tingling plunges. In addition, it also features two of the wettest, fastest, and steepest drops to be found at any theme park around the globe. The first plunge sends the riders nearly 60 feet (18 m) into the main harbor, while the final hair-raising drop, a 60-foot (18-m) nosedive, takes them into S-shape, bobsled-like curves. The riders are chased by ‘spirits’ as they travel on water and high speed rails. It is absolutely impossible to predict what’s around the next corner or the next stop! The extraordinary special effects added to the water coaster make ‘Journey to Atlantis’ the most unbelievable ride imaginable. These effects are produced using lasers, LCD technology, and holographic illusions. Kids are advised to be accompanied by a responsible person on the ride.
