Earthquake - The Big One

earthquake - the big one

‘Earthquake: The Big One’, one of the major attractions at Universal Studios Florida, was established at the Universal Studios Florida on June 7, 1990. This exciting ride is a wonderful technological marvel, which resets itself in a matter of few minutes. The ride lasts for nearly 20 minutes. The minimum height requirement for this ride is 40 inches (101.6 cm). Young children, pregnant women, and those with neck, back, or heart problems are advised not to board this ride. Formerly located in a building themed after the old fire department of San Francisco, this attraction was replaced on November 5, 2007 by another attraction known as ‘Disaster!: A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring You!’

As guests amble through the queue, they can view a number of models and plaques from Earthquake. At the end of the queue, an attractive sign welcomes everyone into the San Francisco Golden Gate transit. Guests are then moved through three different rooms. In the first room, Charlton Hesston makes a brief appearance on the TV screen and elucidates the making of the film. In the second room, guests are allowed to participate in scenes recreated from the film, including a high fall stunt and the popular shopping mall sequence. In the last room, guests finally board the ride vehicles.

After the ride vehicles are loaded, the trams enter a subway station in San Francisco, soon after which, the lights go out, the roof collapses, and a gasoline truck nearly collides with the tram causing a deadly fire. Soon, yet another tram flies off its tracks and a flood comes down from above. Finally, Charlton Hesston re-appears on a screen to the right and bids farewell to all. This enthralling ride was in continuous operation until its final closure in the year 2002, when a second version of this attraction was inaugurated. The new version featured the Shakin’s Souvenirs, an elegant gift shop, after the ride. This gift shop offered a variety of Earthquake, Disaster, and Universal Studios related merchandise.
