The Jurassic Park River Adventure, a water-based amusement ride themed after Steven Spielberg’s hit movie Jurassic Park, was opened at the Islands of Adventure theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida in the year 1999. The ride mainly aims at bringing to mind the island environment described in the Michael Crichton novel as well as in the Spielberg film. The ride starts as a jungle river tour past gigantic dinosaurs, including a pair of Stegosaurus, Ultrasaurus, and Psittacosaurus. The raft then heads towards the popular Hadrosaur Cove.
The raft also passes by an exact replica of Raptor Pen from the movie. At this point, the riders can hear roaring Velociraptor in the dense forest. In the ride, the riders come across two Parasaurs. Turning a corner, two compys can be seen fighting over the bloody shirt, soon after which, a crate falls on riders and nearly crushes them. The riders are then taken into a large silent building, where a number of Dilophosauruses spit out poisonous venom (water!) on the guests.
The head and the entire front section of the Tyrannosaurus appear before the riders just before the final 85-foot (26-m) near-vertical drop. The ride finally concludes at a Jurassic Park-themed gift shop, where the riders can buy souvenir photographs of themselves in the ride during the drop. The minimum height requirement for this ride is 42 inches (107 cm). This ride has very long lines and it is recommended to go for it in the morning itself.
