Revenge of the Mummy - The Ride

revenge of the mummy - the ride

Revenge of the Mummy-The Ride, one of the more popular attractions at the Universal Orlando Resort, is an indoor steel roller coaster themed after the famous Mummy movie franchise directed by Stephen Sommers. Constructed by Premier Rides, this enthralling ride was inaugurated on May 21, 2004. The Revenge of the Mummy coaster features three LIM (Linear Induction motors) launches, which are generally used to launch riders from a complete standstill.

This coaster ride features a maximum speed of 45 mph and lasts for nearly three minutes. The 2200-foot (670-m) track features a 50 degree angle of descent, no inversions, and 80 degree banked turns. The building that houses the coaster was formerly home to ‘Kongfrontation’, one of the most famous landmark attractions of Universal. A spectacular golden statue of King Kong in the second scene of the ride is worth noticing. Before entering the ride, the guests are invited to browse through a film setup for the fictional fourth Mummy movie. Finally, the guests board mine cars housed in a 1940 archaeological dig.

As the mine cars move ahead, the guests notice a production assistant of the set, Reggie, being sacrificed to Imhotep. The riders are taken into a huge treasure room, where Imhotep offers a life of riches to all before the warrior mummies arise. The mine cars then dip out from under a falling wall, and are sent to encounter the scarab beetles. The cars are finally sent backwards, rotated, and rocketed upwards, straight into Imhotep’s mouth.
The ride also features a ‘fake unload’ sequence. The worker sitting in the control room disintegrates into a skeleton within no time. The window of the booth then explodes and Imhotep appears before the guests in a 3-D animatronic form. An interesting video of Brendan Fraser, the lead actor of the movie, is shown as the guests load into the real station. At the end of the ride, the riders are given their pictures along with a ‘missing person’ poster with a picture of Reggie on it.
