Universal Studios Florida, situated in Orlando, Florida, is an integral part of the Universal Orlando Resort. This amusement park was established on June 7, 1990 and is themed on the entertainment industry, especially television and movies. The park features a number of live shows and other attractions, and encourages its guests to “ride the movies”. With nearly 6.2 million guests in 2007, Universal Studios Florida was ranked the 11th most-frequented park in the world and the 6th most visited park in the US.
Universal Studios Florida is divided into 7 different sections: World Expo, Hollywood, New York, Production Central, Woody Woodpecker’s Kid Zone, The Lagoon, and San Francisco/Amity. Some of the greatest monuments, such as the Schwab’s Drug Store and Mel’s Drive-In, are located along the Hollywood Boulevard. The other popular attractions in the area include Universal’s Horror Make-Up Show; Lucy: A Tribute, a walk-through museum; Terminator 2:3-D Battle across Time; and the Mel’s Drive-In Concert. Production Central marks the main entrance of the Park. It features a group of motion picture soundstages that house several attractions inspired by actual films and television filming. The current attractions in this section of the Park include Shrek 4-D, Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast, Donkey’s Photo Finish, and the Bone-Yard.
‘New York’ is best recognized for its architectural styles. Its current attractions include Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride, Twister… Ride It Out, Street Breaks, The Blue Brothers, and the Delancy Street Preview Center. The San Francisco/Amity section of the park, on the other hand, features two distinct themes, that of a seasonal tourist town in New England and of a mature coastal city. The most popular attractions in this area include Beetlejuice's Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue, Disaster’, A Major Motion Picture Ride...Starring You, Jaws, and Fear Factor LIVE!
World Expo is designed on the theme of the international expositions of the 20th century, and features ultra-modern architecture as seen from the 1960s and today. Back to the Future: the Ride and The Simpson’s Ride are the two major attractions in this section of the park. Hosted by Universal Studio’s mascot Woody Woodpecker, the Woody Woodpecker’s Kid Zone is very popular with the children. E.T. Adventure is the most popular attraction in this area. Lagoon, a large lake situated in the middle of the park, features Universal 360: A Cinesphere Spectacular, a seasonal fireworks display; and several other annual events, such as Mardi gras, Rock the Universe, and Halloween Horror Nights.
Universal Studios Florida features a total of 12 rides, including 3 roller coasters and 2 water rides. Most of these rides and attractions at the park are geared more to teenagers and adults, and are too frightening for the young children. Universal Studios Florida is undoubtedly the most popular entertainment park in the United States, after Disney’s Florida and the California Enterprises, and is truly worth it.
