Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a spectacular theme park on the southwestern edge of the Walt Disney World Resort, was inaugurated on April 22, 1998. Designed by Imagineering Concept Designer Joe Rohde, the Animal Kingdom features a typical theme park, a non-traditional zoo, and an Epcot style pavilion. It offers a nature-rich and defensive environment for various species of exotic animals. The first few attractions to be established in the park include the Oasis, Safari Village, Africa, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Dino-land USA, Asia, and the Conservation Station. The Safari Village and the Conservation Station were later renamed Discovery Island and Rafiki’s Planet Watch respectively.
The Tree of Life, which stands tall in the distance as the guests come out of the entrance, known as the Oasis, is noteworthy. Animal Kingdom is also well known for its afternoon parade, popularly known as the ‘Mickey’s Jammin Jungle Parade’. Besides, it also offers guests two “Behind the Scene Tours” and a special Wildlife Discovery Excursion to help them explore the phenomenal vegetation and exotic wildlife in the Park.
Today, the most popular attractions in the park include the Festival of the Lion King, a Broadway class show; Kilimanjaro Safaris, a 20 minute journey into an African Savannah; Dinosaur, where guests are taken back in time to the Cretaceous Period; and the Tusker House. Yak and Yeti, a restaurant themed as a rural village in the Himalayan foothills, is a pan-Asian establishment featuring a 200-seat quick-service eatery and a 300-seat table service restaurant. Animal Kingdom offers a lot of fun and excitement to all age groups and is a ‘must-see’ for all nature-lovers.
