Disney's West Side, the largest of the three Downtown Disney areas, was established in the year 1997. It encompasses a total area of 344,000 square feet (32,000 sq. m.), featuring a number of attractions, such as the Disney Quest, Bongos Cuban Café, and Cirque du Soleil, and a separate area of 9500 square feet (880 sq. m.) for events and entertainment. As West Side has no Disney Resort bus stop, the guests should use the Pleasure Island bus stop to reach the attraction. However, the bridge that connects the Pleasure Island and the West Side is closed during the nightly Pleasure Island fireworks in order to ensure safety.
The Bongos Cuban Café at Disney’s West Side was established by Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio. It is best known for its Cuban cuisine for full dinner and express lunch. Its elegant dining area is themed after Cuba in the 1930s and 1940s. The 471-seat restaurant and the 75-foot (23-m) tall pineapple at the entrance are also noteworthy. Disney Quest, on the other hand, is an indoor interactive theme park for all age groups. It offers a unique blend of Disney’s magic and the avant-garde technologies, such as virtual reality. Housed in a 5-story building, Disney Quest was established on June 19, 1998 and is best recognized as a ‘video arcade’ or ‘the entertainment center of the future’. Cirque du Soleil-La Nouba, written and directed by Franco dragon, is performed five days a week, twice daily.
Disney’s West Side is also home to a number of other attractions, including the 1500-seat House of Blues, themed to the venue on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles and best recognized for its largest public display of folk art in the country; Planet Hollywood, a three-floor eatery featuring famous movie memorabilia; Wetzel’s Pretzels, offering Haagen-Dazs ice cream and gourmet pretzels; Wolfgang Puck Café, a 552-seat, full-service restaurant known for its wood-fired pizzas and a wide range of archetypal Puck entrees; and the AMC 24 Theaters, featuring the latest movies.
West Side is also home to a wide variety of shops, such as the Candy Cauldron, the Celebrity Eye-works Studio, the Disney Quest Emporium, Hoypoloi, Magic Masters, Magnetron, Mickey’s Groove, Pop Gallery, Sosa Family Cigars, Starabilias, and the Virgin Mega-store. In addition, the Disney Vacation Club members and the Annual Pass-holders are offered discounts at several Downtown Disney locations. Disney’s West Side offers a lot of fun and excitement and is certainly not to be missed!
