The Festival of the Lion King, one of the most popular attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort, is themed upon the original story of Disney’s animated classic, The Lion King. This 28-minute show is a favorite with fans of all age groups. Each song is richer and livelier than the next as the audience listens to some popular, and some new, Lion King songs. The spectacle, costumes, and sheer energy of the performers is remarkable and truly worthwhile.
The show is featured in an air conditioned, hexagonal timber theater, which is divided into four wonderfully designed sections, each labeled as elephant, lion, giraffe, or a warthog. As the show commences, the performers fill the theater; four gigantic moving floats are brought out, and Simba, a 12-foot (3.7-m) high animated character, appears on Pride Rock. Simba is then followed by an elephant, a swaying giraffe, and Pumba & Timon. Also, a troupe of acrobatic monkeys dances to the tune of Hakuna Matata. However, the major attraction of the show is a beautiful aerial ballet performed to the tune of ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’. More than 50 performers in vibrantly colored costumes finally come together in the finale.
The best times to watch this are the day’s first and last shows. Facilities like assistive learning devices and reflective captioning are made available on request. Special arrangements are also made for guests in wheelchairs. The theater has nearly 1375 seats and it attracts visitors of all age groups. It is undoubtedly a ‘must-see’ in Walt Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.
