The
Norway Pavilion, located in Epcot’s World Showcase segment, was opened for public in 1988. This pavilion is synonymous with the adventurous and fun-filled ride called – Maelstrom.
Aboard a dark dragon headed boat ride the six minute Maelstrom adventure is an absolutely delightful trip for visitors. Being taken back in time to ancient Norway in this ancient ship, guests enter a Viking Village of the 10th century, encounter waterfalls, storms, and torrents and also pass through a mythical Norwegian forest region occupied by trolls. Expect the unexpected here…a spell is cast on your boat by one of the inhabitants of the forest and lo! Your boat starts moving backwards for a few minutes. Afterwards the boat sails into the North Sea where an ocean storm takes charge of your vehicle. The adventure might turn a little scary especially for kids as special effects bring to life large trolls, full-scale polar bears, dark places and stormy lightning.
The ride ends when the boat settles at a serene fishing village and from here guests enter an open theatre that showcases a film on Norway, it people and their culture.
Other attractions include a replica of the Gol Stave church, the statue of Greta Waitz a world renowned runner and a 20 minute Norwegian folk musical show.
