The Maharaja Jungle Trek, one of the more popular attractions at Animal Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort, is a self-guided walking tour that takes the guests on a fascinating journey to the land of Anandapur. This tour gives the visitors a golden opportunity to explore the ancient ruins of India and see a number of wildlife species native to the country. Maharaja Jungle Trek is organized by the Royal Anandapur Wildlife and Forestry Authority. The magnificent land of Anandapur is best known for its art and architecture. Nepal, India, Thailand, and Indonesia are well represented throughout the trail through architecture, ruins, and animal carvings.
After crossing the bridge into Asia, the guests finally join the Maharaja Jungle Trek. White-cheeked gibbons and the larger siamangs can be spotted amid the temples and memorial pillars of Anandapur. The Siamangs are more likely to be found overhead, swinging from one tower to the other. The home of the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard, is located in the first animal viewing area. The female Malayan Tapir, an endangered species, can be spotted next along the path. The Bat Community, home to the Malayan Flying Fox and the Rodriguez Fruit Bat, is the next attraction along the way. Here, a number of bats can be seen hanging from trees and vines in enclosure.
Tiger Forest is the most beautiful section of the Maharaja Jungle Trek. This area features a number of paintings that adorn the ancient crumbling walls. The forest is also home to several viewing areas for the Asian Tigers. The Maharajah collection comprises of 6 female tigers, which can be often found playing in the water or stretching on a tree trunk. The Elds Deer and the Blackbuck, endangered species from Burma and Eastern India respectively, can be seen on the left while on the bridge.
The Maharajah Jungle Trek also features a beautiful peaceful bird sanctuary, which is home to a number of exotic bird species, including the Masked Plovers, Argus Pheasant, King Parrots, and the Indian Pygmy Geese. The Kali River is yet another popular attraction in the area. Maharaja Jungle Trek is a FASTPASS attraction.
