Spaceship Earth

spaceship earth

Epcot’s star attraction Spaceship Earth is in the shape of a giant golf ball and is one of the most familiar symbols associated with Walt Disney World Resort.

Presently sponsored by Siemens, this marvelous geodesic sphere shaped structure that has a diameter of 165 feet (50 m) was constructed in 1982 and is part of the Future World segment at Epcot. Spaceship Earth has the acclaimed and thrilling 13 minute ride called “Time Machine” that takes us through the history of human communication and also sheds light on what lies ahead for us in the future.

Suitable for all age groups this amazing pavilion and the exciting ride inside that zooms to the summit of the 17-storey geosphere makes you explore the human life starting from the days of the cavemen. With the current narration offered by Oscar winning actress Judy Dench, the scenes slowly move from the pre-historic era to the present computer age and then the future of the communications segment is projected. Important milestones such as invention of paper, printing and theatre and the impact of an invention on the future generations are highlighted.

After experiencing the Time Machine, visitors can check out the “Project Tomorrow: Inventing the World of Tomorrow” show that is full of fun filled, interactive and informative exhibits on the technologies of Siemens.

For its educative and entertainment value, Spaceship Earth has and will continue to be a blockbuster segment at Epcot.
