Star Tours, situated on the far side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, is a popular flight stimulator ride presented by Energizer. This ride is themed after the original Star Wars movie triology. Located beyond Echo Lake, the Star Tour features R2D2 and C3PO as well as other popular Star Wars scenes and characters. Star Tours take the visitors to the Moon of Endor.
The queue-area of this attraction is an attraction in itself. The external queue, which winds around a Ewok Village, leads the guests under the enormous AT-AT walker standing guard at the entrance. The premise inside the internal queue area is designed to mimic the hangar area of the intergalactic travel agency “Star Tours”. Here, visitors can encounter many familiar characters from the original movie. They can also see some droids being transported on conveyors and still other droids performing equipment maintenance under the supervision of Admiral Ackbar and friend.
Finally, the guests are directed towards the transport area, where they are invited to board their individual star-speeder to Endor. The loading procedure and the upcoming flight are described by an entertaining video featured on the overhead monitors. The 40-seat flight simulator, designed by teams from both Disney and George Lucas, is combined with an action-packed video that sends the passengers soaring into hyperspace. The pilot of this out-of-control star speeder is RX-24, also known as Captain Rex. The ride lasts for nearly 10 minutes. During the ride, the passengers travel past comets and icy asteroids, dart Imperial fighters, zoom through the trench of the Death Star, get caught in the tractor beam of the Destroyer, and also help to destroy the Evil Empire, all before crash-landing back in the hangar bay.
This attraction is a part of the Extra Magic Hour program at the park. ‘Child Swap’ facility is also made available at the attraction. Reflective captioning is also available. The height requirement for the ride is 40 inches. The Backlot Express Restaurant, located just across this attraction, offers restrooms and fine dining opportunities. Besides, an elegant gift shop, named the Tatooine Traders, is also located nearby. ‘Star Tours’ is a FASTPASS attraction and is one among the best attractions in all of Walt Disney World and is certainly not to be missed by those who like Star Wars and thrill rides.
