walt disney world resort

The Walt Disney World Resort, situated in the cities of Lake Buena Vista and Bay Lake, 15 miles (24.1 km) southwest of Orlando, is the most-frequented and the largest recreational resort in the world. It is owned and managed by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, an integral segment of The Walt Disney Company, and is commonly abbreviated as the Disney World or WDW. This resort was inaugurated on October 1, 1971 with the Magic Kingdom theme park. Today, Disney World features 4 different theme parks, 23 themed hotels, 2 water parks, and a number of dining, shopping, recreation, and entertainment venues.

The four theme parks at WDW include the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, represented by the iconic structures of the Cinderella Castle, Spaceship earth, The Sorcerer’s Hat, and The Tree of Life respectively. Other points of interest in the complex include the Typhoon Lagoon, Disney’s Boardwalk, Blizzard Beach, Downtown Disney, and the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. The three major sections in Downtown Disney-Pleasure Island, Marketplace, and West Side-are home to a number of shopping, dining, and entertainment venues, including the House of Blues restaurant and nightclub, the Disney Quest indoor arcade, the Planet Hollywood restaurant, and the Cirque du Soleil theater. The World Disney World Resort also features five golf courses, including four 18-hole golf courses, Magnolia, the Palm, Lake Buena Vista, and Osprey Bridge, and a single 9-hole walking course, the Oak Trail. In addition, WDW offers two themed miniature golf complexes, the Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland, each featuring two golf-courses.

Besides, the resort’s lakes also offer guests a number of catch-and-release fishing excursions daily. A fleet of Disney-operated buses, branded Disney Transport, is also available for guests free of cost. Another remarkable feature of the Walt Disney World Resort is the large number of luxurious hotel resort complexes on the property. A total of 32 resorts, including Disney-owned and non-themed, privately-owned hotels, are located at WDW. The Disney’s Magical Express Service can be used by guests arriving at the Orlando International Airport to reach their Disney resort. The theme parks of the Walt Disney World Resort are visited by millions of visitors every year. These parks offer a complete package of fun and entertainment for all ages. Walt Disney World is a tribute to the talent, life, and philosophy of Walter Elias Disney, and is a ‘must-see’ for all those who visit Orlando.
