Richardson Beach Park
Richardson Beach Park is very attractive, and facilitates one of the best snorkeling on the island at the Hilo side. It is well known as Richardson Ocean Center. Richardson's superb snorkeling attracts many tourists here and provides the exposure to huge diversity of aquatic wildlife, including green sea turtles. This beach is the nearest beach to the town of Hilo that contains black sand. Richardson's provides good picnic areas, showers, bathrooms, and a lifeguard stand. The swimming area and beach are guarded by a lava rock breakwater.
The water is very calm at this protective beach, and that makes it a very good place for snorkeling activities. Quite often you may notice green sea turtles feeding along the shoreline. There is also a great quantity of lava rock tidal pools that one may explore. The water and beach are quite safe for young kids to swim and explore. Leleiwi Beach is just next to this beach area, which is another picturesque beach. The sunset Richardson's Beach is main attraction while view from Leleiwi Beach is another center of attraction for most tourists.
Richardson's Beach provides an enjoyable family experience. When water touches the black sand underneath the shade offered by the nearby trees, it creates a magnificent view. You may enjoy the snorkeling activity in both the beaches, Leleiwi Beach and Richardson's Beach respectively. Ideally you can try snorkeling at the Leleiwi Beach and come back to other one after having lunch.
